True Friends 101

I’ve just learned one thing: you can forget all that shit about real friends being there when you are in state of emergency. You learn who your real friends are when things are running fantastic! It is the ego thing: when you have a problem and you are down, many people will be happy to help because that’s when they are in the stronger position. When you are crashed, they are clever, rational, helpful, strong – which subconsciously boosts their ego. But hey, when you are up and fantastic things are happening to you and they should be happy for you, that’s hard. Because at those moments you are strong, you are the star and they only have a supporting role. And it’s only true friends who can forget their egos at those moments, and share your happiness without being the very centre of it. Some will just pretend as if nothing is happening, some will only say what’s polite, some will simply disappear. And some will even invent a reason to attack you. Peace.

    neither… nor… forgetting ego vs. reverse decoration / strengthening positions vs. real support … in between … hmm, needs maybe other categories to evaluate the level of friendship (if so)! how about comparing the amount of words you want to say to those you need to say – ever felt comfortable by not talking to each other…

    Ana, you’ve always been a star to me! Now I’m happy that lots of other people can get the chance to get “a bit of you” with your book and your articles! I’m sure you have enough friends that are also happy for you, just forget the others and enjoy!

    Those who have more than 4-5 real friends count their office colleagues into the group.

    Hmmm? Well, what is happening?

    How about that: It just doesn´t make any difference for a real friend
    - if you are a shivering school girl in an unheatable lousy command car that´s stuck in deep snow somewhere up in the 19th;
    - if you are a student enjoying a students life;
    - if you are a lamenting secretary or a stressed manager on the verge of a nervous breakdown;
    - or if you are an author…

    What ever profession you choose, it´s only your heartstrings that matter. And if they have not changed – well, then nothing has changed and nothing significent is happening…

    Might it be that you expect to much?

    BTW, I don’t expect to much. Just that I am not losing people because things are running so fantastic…..
