OK, by now this seriously started feeling like a … wedding (!!!???). And it is scary. Yes, and the groom is missing. Ohmygod – maybe I’m getting marrying myself!
First, it was the invitations. Then, organising the weekend of great food and parties for my friends who are coming to my hometown for that special occasion. Then I was informed that there will be TV crews and someone filming the event so that I can have it on a DVD. So I got a bit nervous and called my “stylist” (yes, Ines – you) begging her to help me find the perfect dress. Now that this gorgeous dress is hanging in my living room, my gay neighbours had to decide on the perfect pair of shoes and the perfect shade of nail polish. And yesterday, I even told my dad to wear something nice…. Aaaarrghh!
Now I should be thinking about what to say. But right now, all I can say is this: I don’t understand people who have big weddings on their free will. Maybe one day, someone will have to remind me that I said this…. Please.
Several possible reasons:
1. The bride has been growing up being called “princess”, and she always wanted to find her “prince”… She always watched wedding movies and knew what dress to wear before she had the guy even, since the wedding was more important than the guy anyhow. Over-romanticized, pink-glasses view, highly competitive with ‘friends’ around looks & who has the larger party etc etc. You get the picture.
2. A mother/father who wants to show off to their family & business partners that he can throw a great party and that he has _sooo_ many friends that it does not even fit into the large ballroom in the biggest hotel in town.
3. A mom who wants to force her kid into feeling guilty about the huge size of the party so that they can blame the kid for the rest of their lives for one more thing that the kid did to them.
4. A daughter who really wants to annoy her parents by spending more than they can (“But you love me, right?”) and make her friends jealous.
5. Someone who things great parties are easy to arrange and who realizes too late that a large, crappy party is much worse than a small nice one.
Ok 2 and 3 are not exactly “free will” but still….
I´m the stylist!!! can I get in the credits of the DVD? ;o)
