Otherwise he just gives you things his wife does not let him buy for himself and then he can use them later himself. There might be a message behind a navigation system. Something like "now you cannot say anymore that visiting us is too hard" or "You seem lost my girl, this here might help" or "Stop hanging around at home. Go out and find a guy. This is so you find back again", or even "My wife shouts at me when I get lost. Take this so people do not shout at you, too. Since we both do not like to ask others for help...".... just guessing here, though :-) Since you do not live together, he clearly loves you.
