I am sick of Myanmar monsoon and China earthquake reports on TV! Why, why, why do we have to be bombarded with pictures of death and suffering due to natural catastrophes? Is it to push us into the “I shouldn’t complain; I have it so good” game? Stop the never-ending videos of dead children! Show them to me once, shock me with the number of dead and refugees – and let me know if and how I can help. But stop blackmailing me with other people’s suffering!

Traditional media is dead without catastrophes and scandals.
Those who indiscriminately follow the news on the cheapest resource they can find do not care about what matters to them. They only care about what indirectly reinforces their happiness by showing the misery of others.
But Oliver, what made me especially angry were CNN and EuroNews – two major news channels in Europe. And these are not the cheapest, they are most available and most trusted: If you want to get a quick fix, and the only media you have by the hand is TV, you do not have much choice. So they do have the position to brainwash…. Which is being used to the extent of ridicule.
